What are
Magnetic
Couplings?

A magnetic coupling is used to transfer a
force or a torque from one medium to another
without using a physical mechanical connection, therefore precluding the need for bushings and seals which can deteriorate over time. The medium can be a shaft, rod, disc or a plate, comprised of a motor (power force) and a follower. Magnets can be sized and configured to provide a force to create a synchronous, one to one, linear planar motion, or a torque to provide rotational motion to a medium. Magnetic couplings have the ability to provide ease of maintenance on systems that require precision alignment, since they permit greater off axis error between the power force and the follower. Essentially, the magnet creates an
electromagnetic force field that can pass
through fluids and air.
